Engage! 18 Solaz
I woke up this morning in beautiful Los Cabos to the sound of rain, with my babies in one room and my husband beside me. We’ve extended our time at this beautiful resort so that we can experience Cabo as a family, and these much needed early hours give me time to relax and reflect on the time I’ve spent in this magical place.
Engage has absolutely changed my business, which changed my life. Thatm, in turn, changed the lives of my husband and our children. No two weeks of the year are more important and vital to my continued growth and success, and I am fiercely protective of the time I have with this community. So much so, that this year I decided to unplug, leaving my phone on airplane mode throughout the week, only going digital for note taking and education.
My post-Engage tradition is to go back through my notes from all of the sessions I attended, and to reread my postings from previous years. Educationally, this is the best way I’ve found to build on what I’ve learned and to re-inspire myself. Emotionally, it’s so interesting to walk through my past, and to see how my frame of mind has changed.
In the beginning, I was so in awe of the attendees and speakers; just being in the same room was enough. As the years progressed, my admiration grew, but I found that I craved more than just a general social association; I wanted to make real connections. I needed to know more about who they were, how they had gotten to this place in their business, and what made them tick. My time with these planners, designers, and educators gave me the permission I needed to dream big, and the tools needed to put those dreams into a plan. Over time, these people became my tribe, my extended family, and they continue to support me and challenge me with every week we spend together.
Today, eight years later and a bit more seasoned, I still approach this conference with the same sense of wonder and awe that I always have, but the nervous energy has shifted. In years past, I worried about who I would meet, whether or not they would like me, and what I would learn. Today, I am giddy at the thought of being able to drill down with my people, and my nerves center around creating content that inspires others, and that provides true take aways that they can implement at home.
I deeply believe in education and inspiration. This is the only way we will grow as individuals, as businesses, and as an industry. Knowing what this conference has done for me, it is so important for me to give back. Every time I teach, I learn. Every time I speak, I have an opportunity to listen to the stories and challenges of others. And every time I am in these rooms I am reminded once again of why I fell so in love with this industry, and how vital it is that we continue to seek human connection through story telling.
If you are a creative in this industry and have yet to experience Engage I implore you to join us. But beyond the classrooms, the parties, and the pretty are real people. We love each other, and need each other, and we pull each other through. Come join us….You’ll like it here.
I am thankful beyond words to Rebecca Grinnals and Kathryn Arce for creating this spectacular community of people who have become my friends and family. I hope I did you proud, and will forever say YES to you. To all of the speakers and educators, I am better for having learned from you. And to each and every attendee that came to listen to me talk about the importance of storytelling; I am humbled beyond belief.
The photos are still being uploaded, but I simply couldn’t wait to share a few from the team. They worked quite literally around the clock to get these in our hands ASAP.
Until June 2019 my Engage family….
