I've started and stopped this post several times today, adding and subtracting stories, sharing personal information, and waxing on about the things I think and feel. But today, I think we just need to keep it simple.
Earlier today I posted a behind the scenes look at Rocco & Marek's wedding. A wedding bringing two men together in a marriage that, just this morning, was not legally recognized in this state. When these two men woke up this morning, they had 1,138 FEWER federal rights than I did. And then with a swift ruling and a short legal brief, as of this afternoon...the weight of that inequality disappeared.
Today, love reigned supreme and the Federal Appeals court struck down the ban on gay marriage.
Today, the marriage of Rocco and Marek - along with the marriages of hundreds of thousands of other couples - is just as valid as mine. As of today, we all have the right to love whomever it is we choose, and to have that love and union recognized and respected throughout this state. And soon, throughout the country.
And doesn't it feel like it's about time?!?!?
