What a city! Having never been to Michigan, I was thrilled to be invited to speak at the city's NACE Event spotlighting Wedding Trends of 2018.
As someone who skews towards the classics, trends are something that I watch and interpret very closely. The trick is to be both timely, and timeless. I was thrilled to be offered the opportunity to go to Detroit and discuss this year's hottest wedding trends, but did the city really need me? After all, while known in modern times as the birthplace of Eminem, the truth is that Detroit has been setting trends since it was founded. Detroit was home to the first mile of concrete highway, the first four-way three-color traffic light, and the world’s first urban freeway. The city is credited as being the birthplace of techno music, and it has the second largest theater district in the country.
This is a city of survivors and innovators, and the hospitality they showed me was second to none. Not only was I able to spend some one on one time with the wonderful Tifany of Gourmet Invitations, but I was introduced to authentic Iraqi food while also checking out beautiful hotels and working on a styled shoot.
But for now...let's focus on NACE Detroit. I was honored to be chosen as the keynote for their first meeting of 2018. Hosted at The Motor City Hotel, the room was dressed in metallic linens, white florals, and icy blue lighting. The perimeter was filled with gorgeous creations from various creative teams, allowing me to get a real sense of the city's style. And the people...OMG! The people were just extraordinary. The planners I met were gracious and stylish, the floral and decor teams were focused on installing beautiful pieces, and the food was phenomenal.
