One day I received an email from a bride to be named Laura Salvatori. The moment I saw her name I thought, "Yaaaaasss....My Italian sister!"
Laura and Muneeb met in law school in 2008. After years of classes, mutual friends, and a short stint as co-workers in a corporate law firm, Laura made the decision to move to what she believed was her only true love, New York City.
While there, the two kept in touch with periodic email exchanges and brief phone calls. The calls slowly felt....different. It quickly became clear that there was more to their relationship than just friendship. They were on the same page on so many critical things – values, career aspirations, future plans, Michelin star dining preferences, sous vide machine techniques and the controversy over juice cleanses. After a brief, long distance relationship involving many samplings of Del Posto’s desserts and Carbone’s lasagna, Muneeb somehow convinced Laura to leave her favorite place in the world, Manhattan, to move back to Toronto.
Both the bride and groom's families had immigrated to Canada; Muneeb's from Pakistan and Laura’s from Italy. The challenges associated with melding two families together, especially considering their respective Islamic and Catholic religions, were no obstacle for these two. Muneeb’s parents have adored Laura since she first met them, with freshly baked paleo cardamom cupcakes in hand. As for Muneeb, he was an instant hit with the Salvatoris (what’s not to love – cappish?). It’s only a matter of time before Muneeb starts canning tomatoes with Laura’s father, brother, and the neighbors. Laura’s mother passed away in 2014, but she would have been Muneeb’s number one fan.
There was only one place in the world fit for their February 2017 proposal. During an ostensibly regular weekend trip to NYC, Laura kicked off her day with a Barry’s Bootcamp class followed by a Glamsquad blowout. After lunch at Nobu 57, Muneeb had set up a horse and carriage ride in Central Park where he dropped to one knee - in the snow! - and proposed to Laura with the Bow Bridge as the gorgeous backdrop. A New York-based engagement photographer was there to capture it all. Laura was so happy she had worked out that day. Dinner to celebrate was at, where else, Le Bernardin. Best day ever. So far.
With that, standing in the middle of her first true love, Laura said yes to her last!
And so what brings them to Las Vegas???
With such an international and deeply eclectic background, Las Vegas felt like a fun and fresh alternative for their wedding. After celebrating their engagement with a trip to the Amalfi Coast, Laura and Muneeb returned to Canada to begin planning their wedding at the iconic Bellagio Las Vegas.
I feel like I am planning for family! Laura feels just right to me, and Muneeb could not be a better counterpart. The poor guy! Stuck between two crazy Italians in the midst of wedding planning!
