Sometimes in Vegas, things get a little crazy!
The first time I walked by the duck pond at The Hard Rock Hotel I thought, "This would be a cool place to take some photos." Then I walked it with Jacki & Phil, my "Down Under" couple from Australia, in 110 degree Vegas heat. While Phil loved the heat, I reminded him that he would be both in a tux and outdoors for the entire night. He looked at the pool and, with a twinkle in his eye, said that if he got too hot he'd simply take a swim. Someone made a joke about that being naughty...And a little sexy and cool...It may have been me! But let's not start pointing fingers...
Jacki & Phil have this incredible energy and willingness to completely turn themselves over to the moment - I adore that about them! But at the same time, that kind of energy means you need to be prepared for anything and everything. To be "better safe than sorry" I told everyone to be prepared to get a little wet, just in case Phil decided that he didn't care about getting his tux deposit back! Low and behold, come 10 o'clock, the excitement of the day and the heat took over...And out towards the water we went!
Before they dove right in, I suggested that we try to get at least one shot of them hovering above the water. Big Thank You and Love to Wendy Yu and her team at the Hard Rock Hotel for grabbing stools that were just the right height for this, and to Brian Derck and our friendly lifeguard for wading through the water to bring J&P to their places!
What really amazed me about this moment wasn't so much the final product - although the photos are stunning, aren't they? But it was the willingness from everyone behind the scenes to come together and make a little magic so that Jacki & Phil could have that moment of joy together. Here's a few photos and a little video that shows just what it takes to turn an idea in art!
Moments like these are certainly not for everyone, but I do hope that on your wedding day you give yourself over to a moment of complete and utter joy, that your photographer is able to capture a little magic, make a little art and leave you with some amazing memories - wet or dry!
