Black and White Portraits from The Knot Gala by 5ive15ifteen. ©
Written in advance and without wi-fi, these are my thoughts from miles in the sky!
As I sit on the plane over a carpet of clouds, I have photos, Snaps, and Instagram memories of the last few days, and no wi-fi to share it with! Still, I flip from one photo to the next, laugh at a few silly filters, and marvel at the parade of gorgeousness I was able to witness (from the front two!) of the Anna Maier fashion show, and all I can think is.....Wow! I am exactly where I always wanted to be.
There is something to be said for taking a moment, looking around, and realizing that you are in a space filled with rare air.
In the last week I was able to not only speak on The Knot's live panel at WMBA, but I was once again entrusted to produce and design their annual Wedding MBA Party. Along side of so many friends and colleagues, and with the help of my creative partners at By Dzign, I watched my dream of A Dark Circus come to life in stunning black and white.
Days later, after a quick plane ride cross country, I was able to meet the designer who created the most important dress I was ever to wear in my life. Literally, this man conjured up my wedding dress in his mind's eye, and brought it to life. For a few moments we talked about how his 2017 collection has him repeating so many of the element of The Stephanie in various ways, and I smiled as I watched my own wedding gown, reimagined, come to life again years later.
Wandering the city, meeting my Knotties for cocktails and appetizers a The Refinery Hotel, connecting with my design and travel partner in crime Ashley Schnippel, and grabbing a mini-Reverie Reunion on the rooftop of The Monarch Hotel I just kept thinking, "It doesn't get better than this..."
And then I arrived on the steps of The New York Public Library. Hedge walls and arches. Candelabras. A 12 ft cut out of the masterful Ceci New York invitation I had received in the mail. Bubbles and buttterflies. Laduree macaroons, immersive dining experiences, and random meet ups and kisses with the Engage crew. Teetering up marble staircases to the place where Carrie almost married Big in 5 inch Jimmy Choos. Two slices of pizza on the street. An all nighter with an old friend in an Irish bar.
With less than three hours of sleep I tossed my couture in my carry on, and headed to Carnegie Deli for pickles and matzo ball soup. Ashley and I ate our lunch in Central Park before walking through the park on the hunt for - what else - more macaroons. We had a perfect day, and despite being bone tired we are returning to a full week of events refreshed, inspired, and overflowing with so many ideas.
At 15 years old, I dreamt of being a wedding planner. For 20 years I worked, never losing sight of my goal, and when I opened my business five years ago weeks like this were imagined in a someday kind of way. Well, today is someday. My clients are spectacular. I am humbled and giddy like a school girl every time one of my weddings is featured online. And I adore the associates that turned into connections, and the connections that turned into friendships.
It would be easy to be jaded, to take weekends like this with a grain of salt. I could roll my eyes, look for things I would have changed, complain about long lines and jet lag and OMG...how busy I am. But being jaded sucks. I'd rather be amazed.
With that, I am off! There are weddings to be planned and parties to be had. I just had to share and let you know that none of this goes unnoticed, and no matter how many galas and conferences, featured weddings or speaking engagements, I am still at heart a 15 year old girl who can't wait for the next Someday...And you let me have that. So thanks!
