Oh, do I love me some Aussies! From the first moment I heard from Jacki & Phil, I knew that we were going to have a great time together. Not only were they having their wedding at the Hard Rock Hotel (LOVE!) but they were so cool and chill and laid back about the entire process!
When they talked about their ideal wedding they used terms like "bright" and "colorful" and "fun". They were also very specific about wanting something "non-traditional" that felt like a big party. Beyond that, they said the three little words that every wedding planner longs to hear..."We trust you."
I know that I've said it before, but sometimes the best thing you can do is hire creative, talented people and then get out of their way! And in taking my own advise, the first thing I did was go visit Wendy Wy of the Hard Rock to map out locations, work on the menu, and confirm that the bar would indeed be open! During out tour a little known area called "the duck pond" caught my eye. "Dare I?" I asked myself? Why yes...I do! I filed the location under "impossibly cool things we can play with" and off I went.
Next, I had to see Randi with Naakiti Floral. See, Jacki's color theme was rooted in the pink ombre and orange colors that decorated her salon. And, as you have probably guessed from my white, ivory, platinum and gold pages, color requires me to stretch beyond my comfort zone. Now, you would think that this makes me uncomfortable but it's the exact opposite...I love it! Randi I sat, toured, sketched, and played with all sorts of fun ways to immerse them in color, and pinned our way to what we thought was going to be a sexy and fabulous set up.
Imagine my shock when, just weeks before the wedding, Jacki called me and told me that she wanted to change out all of her colors for black and white! I'm going to be honest; black and white weddings are SO in my wheelhouse! I love that color combination and will design with an around it as often as possible. But the reality is, while it suits me, it just wasn't Jacki. So after a nice, long chat (and what I'm going to guess were a few glasses of wine for each of us) Jacki realized that this change was more a case of the wedding crazies and not what she and Phil really wanted. So we returned to the vibrant color palette that truly told their story. We don't want to give too much away, but here's a sneak peek at what's to come!
The gluten free cake mirrored the color scheme and provided just the right amount of bling with a Swarovski Crystal Monogram topper! Thank you Beau Monde Bakery for making something gluten free, gorgeous and delicious!
When you have a groom as intimately involved in the planning of a wedding as Phil was, you have to take extra special care of him! Brian Derck was "in the Groom's corner" and made sure that Phil was relaxed, polished and pampered throughout the day. At one point he even ran out and picked up new sets of cufflinks for Phil and his best man. And, as always, we made sure to raise the sock game!
Only the incredibly talented team of AltF Photography could be trusted to document the day. We all spent the day in their studio taking some pre-wedding couple's portraits, and since Jacki & Phil are just about the most fun ever, it didn't take long for us to decide what to do with that duck pond. The photos from AltF are absolutely stunning! My snap shots pale in comparison, but here is a taste of what you will see when the final images are ready to be shared!
Jacki and Phil's wedding was all they asked for and more! And with guests like Lakers player Meta World Peace in attendance, you know this was a party not to be missed!
Oh, and the duck pond...Looks like someone did a little late night swimming! It's too good!
Just wait until the professional photos and video come back from AltF Photography & Memory Lane! Until then, I hope you enjoyed these!
PS - Just to show you that we aren't taking ourselves too seriously, here's a few out takes! Who said you could photo-bomb the wedding planner?!?!?!
