2014 Year in Review & 2015 Wedding Cake Trend Predications
Everything about this wedding cake was epic!  From the seven tiers, each with a different flavor and filling, to the hand set Swarovski crystals, the fondant rosettes, and the hand etched design was magnificent.  Suspending the cake from the industrial AV rigging at the Keep Memory Alive Center, surrounding it with candles and chandeliers, and draping it in even more shimmering accents made this cake the showpiece of the eventing!  Wedding Cake by Peridot Sweets.  Photo by AltF Photography.

Welcome to our 2014 Year in Review & 2015 Wedding Cake Trend Predications!

In 2014 Wedding Cakes took a decidedly romantic and glamorous turn.  We saw beautifully soft, muted colors, iridescent fondant, and hand crafted sugar flowers.  There was a good measure of bling, both on the cakes, above, below, and around them.

The staging of the cake became just as important as the cake itself.  A few couples stayed traditional, with simple cake tables wrapped in linens, and lit from above.  But a daring few ventured out, hanging their cakes from Swarovski wrapped swings, and propping them up on glass petals with chandeliers swinging both above and below.  In one of my favorite vignettes, we set a large, gilded mirror behind a simple, elegant cake, allowing us to shoot the couple's faces as they made their first slice and fed one another.

The experts predict that 2015 will see a rise in nontraditional cakes made from cookies and macaroons, with metallic accents,  and mixed shaped.  I've already seen a few requests for this, and feel that we will see some bold, artistic colors, a big push in creative displays, and that we will once again be treated to unique flavor combinations and a good amount of ruffle, bling, and iridescence.

But for now, let's look back at the sweet, sweet memories we made in 2014 and the cakes we cut along the way!

Always...

Lindsey Green & Lockhart Steel asked for a simple cake with clean lines, a modern contrast to their vintage location, The Flamingo Hotel.  The pink sequence linens and the small flamingo cake topped pulled the details together beautifully.  Photo by Corry Arnold.

The bride's sole request was for super sugary, supermarket icing.  And the look on her face shows that we delivered! Note the pink champagne.  Photo by Corry Arnold.

Each rose was hand tipped with edible, metallic silver paint, giving the cake a soft shimmer that played off of the sheen of the pewter linens. Wedding Cake by Peridot Sweets.  Photo by AltF Photography.

And to counterbalance the sweetness of the bride's cake, baker and cake designer Tiffany Sheree-Jones created this groom's cake which was decidedly more masculine.  Wedding Cake by Peridot Sweets.  Photo by AltF Photography.

Michelle & Michael Tran wanted a peach toned wedding cake with ruffles and real roses.  the ckae was presented on a regal silver pedestal, and the fondant had a slight ombre effect.

Hayley & Bryan Heard cut into the cake of their dreams as friends and family looked on.  The rosettes accented the bottom of her dress, and the alternating blush color of the tiers were soft, warm, and romantic, connecting it the rest of the room.  Wedding Cake by Peridot Sweets.  Photo by AltF Photography.

Another wedding, another cake with delicate rose detailing.  Unlike the rest, this cake was done in a flat, muted tone.  The color or a fleshy, dusty rose, Halona & Rocky Bernard wanted something classic and elegant.  Cake by Four Seasons Las Vegas Weddings. Photo by AltF Photography.

Who says that your cake has to be made of sugar and flower?!?  For the groom who loves cheese, we put together a cheese wheel wedding cake decorated with fresh fruits.  Cheese Cake by The Mandarin Oriental.  Photo by Alt F Photography.

Jess and Juan's stunning six tiered cake is the first that I have ever designed myself.  The crystal pattern on the top echo the detail of her necklace, the roses call to mind her bouquet, and the petals below pick up the softness from the bottom of her dress.  The team at Mandarin Oriental took my rough sketch and turned out a masterpiece! Photo by AltF Photography.

For Megan and Alan, we literally turned the trends upside down, placing the cake on top of the chandelier, and not below it.  The dramatic display held the four tiered wedding cake created by Peridot Sweets up nice and high for the couple's wedding in the villas of Caesars Palace.  Photo by Alt F Photography.

While the wedding was small and intimate, with only 60 guests in attendance, the cake was grand and opulent, in keeping with the venue, the bride's gown, and the luxe, glamorous feel of the night.  Display by Naakiti Floral.  Cake by Peridot Sweets. Photo by Alt F Photography.

The Bellagio Pastry Chef created this five tiered confection, keeping it clean with shades of white and ivory.  The hand painted platinum on the top and bottom tiered added just the right amount of sparkle, and the couple's chalked monogram was surrounded by hand made sugar flowers and a large magnolia.  For extra glamour, we set the cake in front of a large golden mirror and hung a chandelier up above.  Photo by ww.

When the bride and groom cut their cake, the mirror reflected the faces of their friends and family for an intimate yet beautiful affect.  I love how everyone's emotions are perfectly captured and pulled in, with the cake holding it's own as a showpiece against the bride's Vera Wang gown.  Photo by Alt F Photography.

And as a bonus....I had to include this cake from a last minute wedding I planned last week!

This artistic purple and ivory wedding cake was crafted by Peridot Sweets for a last minute wedding that popped up last weekend.  The amazing couple decided to elope with only immediate family, and wanted a cake that was fun and dramatic.  I bet we see more bold colors and dramatic design in the year to come!  Photo by Andrea Eppolito.
